UGANDA – The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has achieved a significant milestone by obtaining the esteemed ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems Certification.

This achievement follows a commendable performance in the Quality Management Systems Audit conducted by Axe Register.

The audit encompassed various functions, including the development of national and regional standards for products and services within the Standards Department, as well as other key areas like Human Resources, Customer Complaint Handling, Corporate Planning, and the Procurement Disposal Unit.

The attainment of ISO 9001 certification is set to usher in a host of advantages for UNBS and its stakeholders.

UNBS plays a pivotal role as a government agency responsible for the development, promotion, and enforcement of national standards.

Its mandate encompasses safeguarding public health and safety while also protecting the environment from harmful and sub-standard products.

In addition to its regulatory functions, UNBS also plays a crucial role in fostering fair trade and competition, contributing to Uganda’s economic growth and consumer protection.

This accomplishment is poised to enhance the Bureau’s service delivery by instilling a sense of credibility and trust among stakeholders.

The ISO certification underscores UNBS’s commitment to implementing processes that yield consistent, replicable results, which in turn bolsters customer satisfaction.

One of the pivotal benefits of ISO 9001 certification is the promotion of internal policy and procedure integration, which contributes to improved operational efficiency.

This certification is a testament to UNBS’s dedication to enhancing its image and reputation, signaling to its partners and the public its adherence to international quality standards.

Moreover, achieving ISO 9001 certification establishes a framework for fostering a culture of continuous improvement within UNBS, ensuring that the organization remains dynamic and adaptive to evolving needs.

The certification cycle spans three years, from July 27, 2023, to July 27, 2026. Throughout this period, UNBS will undergo annual audits to uphold and maintain this prestigious certification, further cementing its commitment to quality management and service excellence.

As UNBS embarks on this new phase of quality management excellence, the organization’s commitment to upholding international standards will undoubtedly contribute to the advancement of Uganda’s overall socio-economic landscape.
