TANZANIA – The Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) has announced the fifth phase of the National Quality Awards, aiming to recognize individuals and institutions that have made substantial contributions to improving quality infrastructure and employing innovative technology.

TBS Director General Dr. Ashura Katunzi emphasized that the awards are designed to promote innovation and elevate the quality of products and services in Tanzania.

By recognizing excellence, TBS hopes to encourage organizations and individuals to adopt established procedures that enhance quality infrastructure. The awards will serve as a benchmark for companies to improve their processes and deliver better products and services.

Categories of recognition

The 2024 National Quality Awards have been organized to celebrate excellence in various areas, with five distinct categories of recognition.

One category, the Best Company of the Year, acknowledges a company that has demonstrated outstanding dedication to maintaining high standards of quality in its operations. Another category, the Best Product of the Year, highlights a product that stands out for its superior quality and innovation.

In addition, the awards include a category for the Best Service of the Year, which recognizes a service provider that has excelled in delivering exceptional quality in their services.

There is also a category for the Best Exporter of Products, which honors a company that has successfully exported high-quality products outside the country.

Finally, the Individual Excellence in Quality category celebrates an individual who has made a significant contribution to advancing quality standards in their respective field.

Encouraging participation

Speaking at the launch, the Regional Executive of Coast Region from the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA), Amilwise Mkayula, urged businesses to participate in large numbers.

He emphasized that these awards offer substantial benefits for the growth and development of businesses, both in local and international markets.

Mkayula also noted that those who participated in previous phases are encouraged to re-enter the competition, as the awards continue to foster enthusiasm and healthy competition among businesses.

The fifth phase of the National Quality Awards is expected to inspire further advancements in quality across various sectors in Tanzania, reinforcing the importance of maintaining high standards in both production and service delivery.
