NIGERIA/ZIMBABWE – The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and the Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) have partnered to augment standardization efforts between the two countries.
Forged during the 30th African Organisation for Standardisation (ARSO) General Assembly Dr. Ifeanyi Okeke, Director General and Chief Executive of SON, led the Nigerian delegation, while Mr. Cosmos Mukoyi, Acting Director General of SAZ, headed the Zimbabwean team.
This bilateral meeting marked a new chapter in standardization efforts, focusing on mutual cooperation and enhancement of quality assurance frameworks.
The high-level discussions between SON and SAZ covered a range of topics critical to the improvement of quality and safety standards.
Key areas of focus included system revenue improvement through inspection, certification, digitization, enforcement, and information sharing. Both organizations expressed their commitment to learning from each other’s experiences to better their respective standardization activities.
Dr. Okeke emphasized the importance of knowledge sharing, training, and revenue initiatives to address emerging challenges effectively and meet organizational objectives.
By enhancing these frameworks, both countries aim to contribute significantly to the socio-economic development and well-being of their citizens. The partnership is expected to foster a stronger standardization environment, ultimately benefiting consumers and businesses alike.
SON receives prestigious award from Helen Keller International
In addition to the new partnership with SAZ, SON received notable recognition for its impactful work. Helen Keller International honored SON with a prestigious award, acknowledging its significant contributions to various projects in Nigeria.
This accolade, presented during the 25th anniversary celebrations of Helen Keller International, was handed to Dr. Ifeanyi Okeke by Engr. Yahya Bukar, the Director of Standards.
Helen Keller International is a US-based nonprofit organization that combats the causes and consequences of blindness and malnutrition by establishing programs based on evidence and research in vision, health, and nutrition.
Dr. Okeke expressed gratitude for the award, highlighting the importance of continued partnerships and commitment to improving lives.
She reaffirmed SON’s commitment to furthering its impactful work in collaboration with Helen Keller International, aiming to achieve greater milestones in the future.
