U.S – In a significant move to prioritize customer safety, Papa Johns, the fourth largest pizza delivery restaurant chain in the United States, has announced its adoption of a cutting-edge allergen and error detection technology developed by LiberEats.

This innovative technology aims to strengthen Papa Johns’ existing allergen data processes, ensuring accurate allergen information is communicated to its 500+ nationwide stores.

It is estimated that 50+ million people in the United States have allergies, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

While many different foods can cause allergic reactions, the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 (FALCPA) identifies eight foods as major food allergens: milk, eggs, fish, Crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soybeans.

On April 23, 2021, the Food Allergy Safety, Treatment, Education, and Research (FASTER) Act was signed into law, declaring sesame as the 9th major food allergen recognized by the United States. The change was effective on January 1, 2023.

Philip Quinn, Papa Johns’ Senior Director of Quality Assurance (International), emphasizes the brand’s commitment to providing safe and high-quality food to its customers.

“As a major international food brand, Papa Johns is committed to providing safe and quality food to all our customers,” Philip Quinn, Papa Johns’ Senior Director of Quality Assurance (International),” he said.

The adoption of LiberEats’ allergen detection technology is seen as a vital step in fortifying the existing safety measures, offering a second line of defense against allergen risks and mitigating potential errors.

LiberEats’ technology spans the entire food process, encompassing supplier information, menus, and accurate allergen displays.

By incorporating this system, Papa Johns aims to reduce the risk of missing allergen information or errors, thereby instilling confidence in consumers and empowering them to make safe and informed purchase decisions.

Founder and CEO of LiberEat, Barry Leaper, commends Papa Johns for its forward-thinking approach to food safety, highlighting the fast-food giant’s commitment to embracing technology for the protection of its customers.
