EUROPE – Lidl GB, one of Europe’s leading food retailers, has signed up for the British Retail Consortium Global Standard BRCGS’s Professional Program to develop the technical skills and competence of its internal teams.

The Program will provide a platform for long-term professional development and employee recognition and enhance talent attraction.

BRCGS Professional is a holistic learning program that encompasses core skills, knowledge, and behaviours in global standards and product safety management best practice.

The learning curriculum provides training in the HACCP, Root Cause Analysis, Risk Assessment, Validation and Verification, and BRCGS Global Standard for Food Safety.

Over 12,000 participants from more than 135 countries are currently enrolled in the program, which has seen significant growth over the past two years.

Lidl has a long-standing relationship with BRCGS and recognises the value of its suppliers being certified to BRCGS global standards as a way of reducing risk and managing supply chain assurance.

It will now work with BRCGS to improve its team’s industry knowledge and boost their confidence in order to forge better ties with its supplier network, bolstering this relationship in the process.

“We are delighted to be working with Lidl as part of our joint commitment to quality and safety. Lidl recognises the reassurance that our certification programmes provide to it as a brand, and we look forward to providing additional value by working with its Quality Assurance teams.

“Lidl joins a growing number of global stakeholders that have collaborated with us to build strong on-site skills and employee recognition schemes,” said Rob Moss, Head of BRCGS Professional.

According to BRCGS, leading brands including Sysco, Greggs, OSI, Aldi UK&I, and Waitrose, have taken this approach and quickly recognised the value of the programme in underpinning service and quality excellence, whilst seeking to drive up quality from their suppliers.

Once employees graduate as BRCGS Professionals, they begin the Professional Progress Programme to maintain their status with professional development tailored to their individual needs and goals.

“We are delighted to be working with Lidl as part of our joint commitment to quality and safety. Lidl recognises the reassurance that our certification programmes provide to it as a brand, and we look forward to providing additional value by working with its Quality Assurance teams.”

The Professional Progress Programme operates on a 2-year cycle within which one must have achieved the BRCGS Professionals status, completed 20 Professional Progress Points, and kept up to date with the latest issue of the standard.

25 years after the first Lidl GB shop opened its doors, the retailer today operates over 900 stores, and 13 regional distribution centers, and employs over 22,000 people throughout Great Britain.
