U.S – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced key appointments to senior staff positions in Washington, D.C., bringing seasoned professionals to the forefront.

The individuals selected for these crucial roles are set to contribute to the USDA’s mission and play pivotal roles in shaping policies and programs. The newly appointed officials include Jayme Holliday, Kevin Shea, and Dr. Michael Watson.

Jayme Holliday: Senior Advisor for Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services

Jayme Holliday steps into the role of Senior Advisor for Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services, bringing a wealth of experience from her tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives.

With a background in managing policy work on education, agriculture, and nutrition, Holliday has served in various capacities, including Senior Policy Advisor for Representative Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan.

Her extensive knowledge of food and agriculture policy, workforce development, and education positions her well for the challenges ahead.

Holliday holds a Bachelor of Arts from the George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs.

Kevin Shea: Senior Advisor in the Office of the Deputy Secretary

Kevin Shea, a stalwart with over 40 years of experience at the USDA, assumes the role of Senior Advisor in the Office of the Deputy Secretary.

Previously serving as the Administrator of the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) since 2013, Shea has been instrumental in safeguarding American agriculture and wildlife.

Having held key positions during USDA transitions, including Acting Deputy Secretary and Acting Secretary of Agriculture, Shea’s leadership will continue to be a valuable asset. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland and the University of Baltimore School of Law.

Dr. Michael Watson: Administrator of the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service

Dr. Michael Watson, previously the Associate Administrator of APHIS since 2018, steps into the role of Administrator of the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.

In this capacity, Dr. Watson has overseen the day-to-day operations of the agency, supporting its mission to protect American agriculture.

With a background in microbiology and a doctorate in plant pathology, Dr. Watson’s scientific expertise adds depth to his administrative role. His experience in various capacities within USDA, including roles with APHIS Biotechnology Regulatory Services and Plant Protection and Quarantine, positions him well for his new responsibilities.
