SPAIN – Intertek, a British multinational Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, has achieved ENAC accreditation to provide Conformity Assessments and a new Recycled Content Product Certification scheme, according to the EN 15343 standard, globally.
The certification will be conducted by the Intertek Business Assurance. The certification according to EN 15343 empowers companies to accurately validate the percentage of recycled plastic in their products, an essential capability for both plastic manufacturers and packaging companies aiming to meet stringent environmental standards.
EN 15343 is aligned with the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Circular Economy policies, helping companies ensure that they meet international regulatory standards, while enhancing transparency and building greater credibility in their sustainability practices with stakeholders and customers alike.
Ángel Monteagudo, Technical Director for Intertek Business Assurance in Spain, said: “Achieving EN 15343 accreditation is a major milestone for Intertek in our aim to support businesses in their commitment to sustainable and responsible practices.”
“The certification will enable organisations to minimise their environmental impact and enhance the lifecycle of their products, showcase their sustainable design policies to customers, boost competitiveness, and contribute to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals.”
By offering EN 15343 certification, Intertek said it continues to support sustainability efforts and promote positive change in the plastics industry, contributing to a more transparent and environmentally conscious future.
The EN15343 certification applies to a wide range of plastic products made from mechanically recycled plastics for both consumer and industry.
This includes single-use plastic (SUP) packaging, PET sheets, PVC films, thermoforming products, electrical and electronic products, automotive components, textiles, hardlines and more.
The certification can be used as evidence of recycled content in plastic materials and products imported into European countries, potentially reducing tax liabilities.
ENAC, Spain’s government-appointed National Accreditation Body, oversees European accreditation and assesses the technical competence of conformity assessment bodies.
These include testing and calibration labs, inspection bodies, and certification entities, in accordance with national and international standards.
Key requirements in the EN 15343 is a system with a documentary structure is required to meet the requirements of the reference standard, including Control of incoming materials, Control of the recycling production process, Characteristics of recycled plastics, Traceability, Quality assessment and Calculation of recycled content.
In July, SGS expanded its EN15343 plastic recycling traceability and assessment of conformity and recycled content product certification scheme to India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
