GHANA – In an effort to bolster economic growth and support local businesses, the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has inaugurated two new offices in Gambaga and Damango, serving the North-East and Savannah Regions, respectively.
During the commissioning of the Gambaga office, Mr. Clifford Frimpong, Deputy Director-General in charge of Conformity Assessment at the GSA, highlighted the new establishment’s strategic importance.
“GSA’s mandate covers every Ghanaian irrespective of the region and location. Gambaga is a very vibrant community where business is booming, hence the need to establish our presence and assist businesses here to thrive,” Frimpong stated.
Alhaji Mohammed Tando, Chief Director of the North-East Region, expressed the community’s pride and satisfaction with GSA’s recognition.
“The people of the region are very proud and happy that the GSA has recognized our community by setting up an office to help regulate and standardize their businesses,” he remarked.
The North-East Regional Office in Gambaga will be headed by Acting Regional Manager, Abdulai Mohammed Gong. This office is expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring that local businesses comply with national standards, thereby enhancing product quality and marketability.
In Damango, the GSA’s new office was represented by Adiza Bukari and Mr. Abdul Abubakar during the commissioning. Bukari noted that the establishment of the office was overdue and emphasized the potential benefits for the region.
“Having GSA’s presence in the region will attract other agencies to join them to help project the region and make their businesses thrive,” she said.
She urged the GSA to be patient and supportive as local businesses adapt to standardisation practices, which are crucial for producing quality products.
The commissioning ceremonies saw the participation of several senior management members and staff of the GSA.
Notable attendees included Mr. Douglas Nii Teiko, Director of Administration; Mr. George Anti, Head of the Special Projects Unit; Mr. Abubakar Abdullai, Director of Regional Operations; Mrs. Joyce Chiradam, Tamale Regional Manager; and Mr. Kofi Yeboah Debrah, Acting Head of Public Relations. Staff members from the GSA’s Tamale office were also present.
The establishment of these new offices is part of the GSA’s broader strategy to decentralize its operations and enhance regulatory oversight across Ghana.
By bringing its services closer to local businesses, the GSA aims to ensure that products meet national and international standards, thereby boosting consumer confidence and facilitating market access.
Community leaders and business owners in both regions have expressed optimism about the positive impact of the GSA’s presence.
The agency’s efforts to educate and support local entrepreneurs are expected to foster a culture of quality and compliance, ultimately contributing to the region’s economic development.
