KENYA—Dr. Ahmed Kalebi, a renowned pathologist and former CEO of Pathologists Lancet Kenya, has officially launched his new venture, Dr. Kalebi Labs (DKL).

Located at Real Towers Annexe on Hospital Road, Upper Hill, Nairobi, this cutting edge facility is expected to revolutionize the healthcare sector in the region by providing advanced medical testing with quicker turnaround times for both patients and healthcare providers.

Since May 2021, Dr Kalebi has been working as an independent consultant pathologist under his own Specialist Practice License, registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) through his private limited company, Ahmed Kalebi Consultancy.

Dr. Kalebi Labs establishment follows Dr. Kalebi’s departure from Pathologists Lancet Kenya (Lancet), a diagnostic laboratory he founded over 15 years ago.

Lancet rebranded to Cerba Lancet Kenya in May 2024 following a joint venture with the European multinational Cerba HealthCare, in which Cerba HealthCare owns the majority stake.

This fully automated laboratory is expected to transform the healthcare landscape in the region, enhancing access to high-quality medical testing and reducing turnaround times for both patients and healthcare providers.

Dr Kalebi Labs stands out as a unique laboratory on the African continent that employs cutting-edge Total Lab Automation (TLA) technology for chemistry, immunoassay, haematology, molecular platforms, tissue and digital pathology platforms, and coagulation platforms.

Speaking at the launch event, Dr Khalebi emphasized that the lab’s commitment to innovation, quality, and patient-centred care will set new industry benchmarks in the region’s healthcare offerings.

“By investing in fully automated systems, we are ensuring that diagnostics are not only more efficient but also more accessible to everyone in the region, “he stated.

The laboratory is equipped with advanced diagnostic machines capable of performing a wide array of tests, ranging from routine blood work to complex genetic testing.

By leveraging artificial intelligence and robotics, Dr. Kalebi Labs aims to minimize human error, thereby providing patients with trustworthy results and enabling faster clinical decisions for healthcare professionals.

Key features of the lab include fully automated diagnostic systems that deliver rapid results with high accuracy, as well as expanded testing capabilities that encompass a broad spectrum of medical and diagnostic services.

Furthermore, the facility is designed to significantly reduce the waiting time for results, which is critical for timely patient care.

Dr. Kalebi also mentioned that the laboratory will operate around the clock, ensuring that patients receive timely results regardless of their location or time of need.

“We are committed to offering affordable and accessible healthcare solutions, and this new facility underscores our dedication to making world-class diagnostics a reality for all Kenyans,” he affirmed.

In addition to his achievements in laboratory medicine, Dr. Kalebi is a globally recognized entrepreneur and trailblazer in pathology, having been named among the world’s 75 most influential figures in laboratory medicine.

He serves on the boards of several private and not-for-profit organizations, including the Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU) and the United Nations Global Compact Network Kenya.

Dr. Kalebi is also a Founding Steering Committee Chairman and Council Member of the College of Pathologists of East, Central, and Southern Africa (COPECSA) and a Founding Trustee of the HAIBA Foundation.

In 2011, he was honored in Business Daily’s Top 40 Under 40 Men competition, recognizing outstanding professionals under the age of 40.
